In the past few months, many popular social networks and
variety of industries and tech firms had suffered from data breaches and as a
result many credentials were dumped online. The risk of data breach continues
to grow and now its latest victim is Oracle.
Oracle confirms that its Micros division has suffered a
security breach as the hackers have infected many computers at its
point-of-sale division and accessed their information from all over the world.
The staff came to know about the data breach after the appearance of strange
code on the MICROS customer support portal and the certain legacy MICROS
system.
It is said that hackers might have installed malware on the
troubleshooting portal in order to gain access to the customers’ credentials
whenever they log in. After that the hackers get all the information regarding
their user names and their passwords which is then be used to access their
accounts and control their MICROS point-of-sale terminals.
After this activity, Oracle took a move and ordered all of
its customers to change their accounts and passwords as it says:
The security breach has targeted many point-of-sale terminals operated
by food chains, hotels and number of other merchants, previously.
It is said that POS terminals are taken as favorite target by the
cyber-criminal gangs as breaching the single retailer’s internal network could
allow them to get access to other sensitive data of the company.
